WAR (Woman against Rape) is in 2000 gestig deur Janine Rowley, ’n voormalige Versace- en Armani-model in Italië
Tydens ’n werksessie in Miami is Janine brutaal aangeval in ’n parkeerarea.
*WAR (Women against Rape) Benefit Concert. 3 Desember. Steak ’n Ale Restaurant, Bothalaan, Lyttelton. R80; 19:00 vir 19:30. Tel: 012-664-5155
Vana: The Oh So Serious supports the cause for women against rape. We understand that our support does add to the help provided by the conscious public, although it does not solve or eradicate the threat posed by the act of rape. We understand that many issues concerning the abuse of women still need to be fought by the people. Things like rape within marriage, reporting rape as a serious crime, stopping the thrashing of womens sexual and mental history in court, rape as torture and persecution and therefore grounds for asylum, etc. The issue of rape is much wider than it seems, and supporting a cause that fights for the rights of these victims, is something that can be highlighted by the sound of song and voice. We look forward to singing and joining in the petition against the heinousness that surrounds us at times and creeps into our lives like a shadow in the night.
Black Cat Bone:
All woman should be loved and respected
Their rights protected
Cared for, not neglected
Embraced, not rejected
They are gifts from God that He selected
And so the ways of man must be corrected
Outside the New: The concept of rape in a ‘free and democratic’ society should be one that disgusts all individuals regardless of creed, religion or background. In keeping with this Outside The New as a collective and as 7 unique individuals who differ in creed, religion and background stand steadfast behind any organisation that is involved with the, care and treatment, safe keeping and rehabilitation of rape survivors. Obviously believing prevention is better than the cure, in this case, sadly does not apply as it is far too common as statistic in this day and age. We were asked to present a paragraph on why Outside The New want to support WAR as a band, the insanity of the situation as it stands in South Africa and indeed the world, is why wouldn’t we or indeed anyone NOT want to?
The Click: Sadly the term “rape” has become so entangled in our day-to-day life that one doesn’t even shrug anymore when you hear about it. A raping victim is sadly just another addition to a statistic that is almost impossible to track. Estimates show that only 1 in 36 rape cases are reported, and if 50 000 cases are reported a year, it means that out of our female population, 1 in every 2 women will be raped at some point in their lives.
A recent study has shown that about 30% of adolescents reported that their first sexual encounter was forced on them. The study also shown that most men believed that these adolescents probably “asked for it”, or “enjoyed the experience”.
An even more shocking statistic is that of all the rapes reported, the conviction rate is only 15%, due to sloppy police work, or lack of evidence. Due to this low conviction rate, and the fear of victimization, rape survivors find it difficult to stand up against these criminals, who will then go onto their next victim.
The Click therefore supports WAR, and stands unified for their cause. It is time for our society to show no tolerance for these criminals, and we promise to commit ourselves to the ongoing fight against rape.
Support this worthy cause and join us at Steak and Ale on December 3, 2010 for the WAR fundraiser.
